About the work

The task we were given was to create a portfolio including pieces of visual media for which the audio and music was recorded, created and composed by us.

Working with an Animation student, my group recorded many Foley sounds for an animation called Séance. We also recorded the dialogue and I composed some music for the piece. After some audio editing and mixing, I think the final work was very successful and I am proud of what we achieved. We also replaced the music and some sound for clip from the anime Akira, which was very fun. We were excited to try creating a synthwave soundscape to go along with the scene. Each person in the group eventually ended up with slightly different scores.

Finally, I wanted to try my hand at a little bit of video game sound design, so I created a sound effect using only synths, automation and layering. This module was a lot of fun for me and allowed me to be very creative. I also learnt loads about creating audio for visuals and working as part of a team to achieve a collective, creative idea.

Student Bio

I joined Confetti in the third year of my higher education. Despite this, I immediately felt welcomed and as if I was worth the staff’s time and effort. I was able to catch up on stuff I had missed very easily, and always had every question or query answered satisfactorily.

One moment that sticks out in my mind was when Michael League (Snarky Puppy) came to talk to us about his experiences as a working musician. He gave a lot of very interesting and eye-opening insight. Other memorable experiences were the talks I attended during Confetti’s Industry Week. These experiences, including the course modules, have certainly helped me grow so much as a musician and audio engineer over just a few months.
